Still Missing by Chevy Stevens

Imagine going to work as a realtor, thinking it’s just another routine home open, showing the house to what you hope is a potential buyer and in the end discovering the price of this house could ultimately be your life.

Annie O’Sullivan is a 32-year-old realtor; she’s going about her business as per usual when she is taken captive by a psychopath. A remote mountain cabin is her prison for the next 12 months and only time will tell if she will ever be able to overcome the horrific ordeal she has been through.

Without going into too much detail about what goes on between Annie and her captor I will say during those 12 months of captivity what plays out is enough material for hundreds, thousands, of nightmares. It is no wonder Annie needs the help of a psychiatrist, although will she ever be free of the trauma and pain she has had to endure?

Still Missing is the debut novel of Chevy Stevens and what a way to break into the literary world! I love the way the story is told, a fairly unique instrument from what I have read in all my years, and that is through Annie’s sessions with her psychiatrist. Each chapter is a new session in which Annie describes what she has been through. Well, I’m not sure that describes is the right word here, it is more her talking about what she wants, when she wants. She’s very frank with the psychiatrist; this is to be on her terms and her terms only.

Although Still Missing focuses on Annie’s 12 months in hell don’t be mistaken that that’s all this book is about. Much more has been going on and is going on in Annie’s life and it makes for an interesting story in itself. Team these two together and what you get will shock and entertain you.

A truly captivating novel which held my interest and had me turning those pages almost faster than I could read. If Chevy Stevens continues to write books of this calibre I can absolutely see a major success story and also an author I would personally want to buy any future books as soon as they hit the stores.

Thank you very much to Jess from Allen & Unwin for providing me with a copy of this book. Funny story actually – the first book I received didn’t have the last few chapters in it. To get access to the remaining chapters you had to sign a secrecy pledge to not reveal anything about the finale. I was getting to the end of that first book when Jess contacted me and said the pledge was no longer and she would send me out a completed copy of Still Missing. Well, by that stage I was fretting a bit; I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I finished the book, waited a few days and gave a shout of thanks when the second copy arrived. I devoured those last chapters with such a sense of hunger that it was crazy. In the end it probably made me enjoy the book even more, it added to the suspense and made for a top shelf ending.
